Butterfly - Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hi Everyone!  Today is my day to post my project on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog and for my project, I decided to make a card using the Butterfly Aperture die and the Love Sentiments stamp set.  The Butterfly Aperture is a two piece die which includes the outline plus the inner cut outs.
To create the butterfly, I cut the outline from watercolour paper and then proceeded to add sepia watercolour to the middle of the butterfly and then gradually add a yellow ochre paint, getting lighter as I got closer to the edges.  The insect and antenna section was painted with a payne's gray.
The inner section of the butterfly is cut from black cardstock.  Once it was cut out and all the excess pieces removed, I pressed the black piece down into a Versamark pad so embossing powder would stick. I then mixed some gold embossing powder with chunky white embossing powder, sprinkled it on top of the inner butterfly and heat set it.
In order to give it dimension, neither piece of the butterfly was completely attached.  The black section was glued to the white painted piece around the insect, antenna parts so the outside was loose.  Both pieces were gently bent to give dimension which you can see below.
I used the sentiment from the Love Sentiments set and heat embossed with gold powder.  Before attaching the white cardstock to the black card base with double sided tape, I randomly sprinkled some gold embossing powder around the butterfly and then  heated it from the bottom in order to avoid the powder from blowing off.  When finished, I glued the white card down to the black base.  This is a large die... like a statement piece.  My card is 6"x6" and as you can see it nearly covers the front of it.
Thanks for stopping by and have a good week!

Hi Marilyn,
This is a gorgeous card, I am always so full of admiration for crafters who are clever with multi media 'stuff' - the embossing and gilding looks gorgeous.
I also wanted to say a special thank you to you for visiting me at tanglemouse and leaving such lovely comments about my cards. I want you to know that I appreciate that enormously.
Have a happy Monday!
love from
Sue...xxx
